When my engine goes from morning cold to normal heat (where a non-EFI system's choke settings are involved) she starts running very rough and I get the Check Engine light. After she gets past that point she goes back to normal. If I have to start her in that state I have to floor the pedal and let her blow out a cloud that is going to get the EPA after me, if I try and engage the trany she dies.
I believe it is a sensor, but have almost no information available to me as to the location and type of sensors on an EFI. Does any one out there have any info that would help me fix this?
Sounds like you may have an EGR problem but, you should pull your codes from the computer and see what that tells you. There is a place somewhere here that tells you how if you are unfamiliar with it. (I think it may be in a sticky)
Well, unpluged the vac hose and electric connector from the EGR, she has a down spke once in a while at low RPM, but starts easy and seems to go through the cold change normally (at least much better). So now I need to pull the EGR and clean it or replace it.
i found a good source of info at autozone's web site. the have online shop manuals for most vehicles. so if you need a diagram (and know how to read one) look there.
Any time you have drivability issues with your truck, you should always start by pulling the codes. I'd tell you to do it now but, remember that you made the EGR set a code so.....also, check your vacuum to the valve. You shouldn't have any vacuum there at idle. (sounds like maybe you do)
Nope, no vacuum at idle on the EGR. I knew it would throw a code when I unplugged the EGR. It worked for a few miles, but started it up again. Reattached the EGR and it is as good as gold... I know it won't last.
The indicates a different problem I am sure. I have not had time to pull the codes yet (I don't have a breakout box, and will have to do it with the jupper wire), been too busy this last week. I figure there is this weekend.
