installing a AOD
You have to slide the crossmember back a couple inches. You have to shorten the driveshaft. You'll have to retrofit a shift cable and a TV cable (very important). Also a flexplate with proper weighting (28 ounce). You need to wire the nuetral safety/backup switch. You can't switch the gear inside the AOD tranny so your speedo will probably show wrong.
That's all I can think of.

I also looked around in the junkyards and found a 1 piece driveshaft out of a later modle F150 with a c-6 that fit so i did'nt need to cut my driveshaft. The speedometer in mine is right on the money. Mine came out of a Mustang also and all I did to the speedometer was remove part of the mustang speedometer and install my stock one in place. The Mustand had the same rear gear as my truck so it worked out.
I also used the Mustang shifter mounted in a wooden consol I built. I intended this to be temporary as at the time I was having trouble getting the shift linkage on the column to work. I have since grown to like having it mounted where it's at and will probably remove the column shifter. I never have gotten around to hooking up the neutral safety switch but since I'm the olny one driving it I probably never will.
In all it was an easy swap and I enjoy cruising the interstae at 70 mph at about 1900 RPM's with a 3.73-1 rear end. Plus it will really get up and go off the line with the rear gear. i think the shift charactoristics of the AOD are great in comparison to the old c-6's or c-4's. It shifts when it's supposed to cruising around or at wot
