I have just purchased a 1990 E-250 Fuel injected 6. When the truck has sit for awhile or cold, I can't get it to start until I spray Starting fluid into the air-intake, then it will start. Sometimes smooth, sometimes loping. Any clue as to what the problem is ???, Thanks
I checked both the EGR and fuel pressure, both are ok! I tracked down a vacuum line leading over to the purge canister (front-right fender-well), and discovered that some type of animal had built a nest in the fender-well, they also chewed in-half both vacuum lines. As a temp' fix I plugged both ends. It started up just fine and runs very smooth, however I will wait 'till morning before celebrating, if she fires-up. Thanks for any and all suggestions,...........Tek
Got out of bed around 6:00 am, went outside and she still would not start . I removed the dog-house and started tinkering! I ran-up on a valve or sensor with a hex-nut type rod and a plastic slip-off cover. I started turning the rod around, back and fort, guess what ? She fired up, the check engine light is out and she runs great. Thanks guys for any and all input. Nothing like a Ford Truck when she runs right, I think I'll keep ole' ''Big Bertha'' ,.........Teknikul
Addendum:
How important is the vacuum purge canister ???
1990 Ford e-250 6 cyl fuel injected. In the mornings the engine turns but does not start. If I turn the ignition switch on and go back into the house for about 10 minutes, then she fires right up. Anybody got a clue to what this might be? How about the map sensor ????
