Ran this in the wrong forum so I will try this one again----Help!!!!!! I Have A 91 F150 That Doesn't Want To Start. Problem Has Been Intermittent For Some Time And Now Seems To Be Full Fledged. Started Out As Just Going Dead Driving Down The Highway. After Some Time It Would Start. Changed Ignition Module On The Distributor And Fuel Pump Relay. When I Turn The Key On The Fuel Pump Relay Sounds Like Morse Code, Replaced It But Still No Joy. I Can Get The Truck Started Sometimes After Trying For About Ten Minutes But When It Starts It Is Running Real Rich. When I Turn The Key On The Pumps (dual Tanks) Just Keep Running, They Don't Shut Off And The Check Engine Lite Stays On. Pulled the plug on computer nad it still does it. Bought A Reader But That Doesn't Tell Me A Thing. Have Heard Everything From Computer To Fuel Pumps. Took To Ford Once After It Acted Up And It Cost Me 100 For Them To Tell Me It Was A Good Truck. Any Help With This One I Would Appreciate. Thanx
Had pretty much same symptoms with my 89 F-150 I6, spent 8 months and 300.00 trying to troubleshoot, spent lots of time on all truck forums.Your computer should cut your pumps off at 1-2 seconds. I pulled my eec-iv at the beginning and sent it to S.I.A. electronics(was recommended somewhere along the line) they said computer was broken (bad grounds etc.) They fixed it ,sent back to me. Truck still was'nt right, then replaced eec-iv relay and
truck ran for two weeks, then same problem. Changed relay again, no fix. Started troubleshooting everything else. After running out of things to troubleshoot, sent computer back, told them I wanted a different one.(1 yr. warranty) Got this one back, plugged her in and every thing works great now. S.I.A. only charges 20.00 to test your computer, 80.00 to rebuild or replace) They sent 2nd computer no questions asked,no cost, easy to deal with. Symptoms I had were pumps not cutting off, running rich when it would start, high idle rpm 2000, fuel gauges jumping around, blinkers erratic, radio erratic and other things. Hope this saves you some aggravation
You said your computer tells you nothing with a scanner. Mine would just give a steady tone and lite, nothing else. Also S.I.A has a website. Local parts stores had rebuilt computers for 150.00 and up. I learned alot about Ford fuel and electrical systems at least for monkeying around with them for 8 months. Good luck, and let us know if its the computer. And thanks to all that gave me advice on this forum.
