One thing I forgot to mention was; when I was taking off the shifter I had to pull up on it pretty good and then it "popped" off. Mybe I didn't get the shifter back right? But it went in okay real easy. But the "stick" now that it is on looks lik it is in the nuetral position.
Well, you didn't say what transmission this is, but I'll guess it's the M5OD.
If you left it in first, and when you put the shifter back on it looks like it's in neutral, there's your first clue. The shifter's not on right.
BTW, we don't sit here all day waiting for someone to come along with a question. Sometimes it takes a day or two before someone comes along with an answer. What do you want for free...
So is there a trick to lineing the shifter back up? When I looked down in the hole the 1st and 2nd time I could see a slot that looked like that was were it was sopose to go. I couldn't see anyother place. Should there be a little resistance putting it back in like the same resistance when I popped it off? Hopefuly I didn't screw anything up. I rocked the truck back and forth a little, (not hard) when I first tried to shift it but nothing moved, and it's still in gear.
I can tell I ain't gonna get $&it done at work tommorow cuz I'll be worrying about the truck all day. It's gonna be a long day.
Did you take the top cover off when you changed those plugs? I just changed mine and i pulled the shifter and the top cover because my shift fork was gone and couldnt shift into 1st or 2nd. After i got the new fork on the rail it was a pain to line things up. I had to remove it like 3 times then voila. There pics in my gallery of the plugs aswell.
trial and error, i took the top cover off put shifter on cover and then fought to put it into 1st and then put cover back on, you have to make sure the shift forks are aligned with those round things in the tranny. put 2 bolts on and test it. i put all bolts back on the top cover and it wasnt aligned, had to do it all over. it probably took me 3 hours until i finally had it all aligned, fastened and topped up with fluid. hope this helps.
Okay, I figured out what needs to be done I just can't figure out how to do it.
There is a spring loaded button that needs to be pushed over for the shifter to slide in. If you read my 1st post I stated that I had to pull up pretty good and then it popped out. This is why. The problem is there isn't enough room to get a screw driver in there to push it over to insert the shifter.
Here is a link to a pick of what I'm talking about.
I pushed the "botton" over with a screwdriver, then I came up from the bottom side with a butter knife and held the button over. I could then put the shifter in the slot and when I "seated" it in the butter knife popped out the bottom. I then put the top back on put 4 bolts in it. Put the extention on and guess what? It shifted beautifuly.
S, 24 hrs of stress, and 1 hour of messing with it, it's back on. I just got to put some locktite on the threads and put the interior back.
I'm so excited (releived) that I had to rush in here and let you guys know. Okay, so I get excited about things, and your point is
yea man, i was pretty pumped when i got mine going again. It feels good to be shifting again, when it got wrecked i was offroading and i thought it was going to cost me alot of money and time but it was probably one of my cheapest repairs. glad to hear your up and running again.
