I have been looking for some inexpensive addons to get a little more power out of my 97 4.0L OHV.
I saw a few ads for a device that fits in the air intake that looks like a propeller. Namely Tornado and/or Turbo Max.
The idea is that they make the air swirl in a spiral which is supposed to mix the fuel and air more efficiently.
A rep from Tornado said I could expect gains of 18 hp and 16 ft-lbs.
Anybody have one installed? Does it have any effect?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
These have been around for years - they don't work. The theory behind them sounds plausible, but facts don't add up. I look at it more as a henderance because even though it spins (or is supposed to), it is still taking up room and could block more air than it could spin.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-Jan-03 AT 03:26 AM (EST)]There is no "cheap" add-on. Either you do it the right way or you are just wasting money. For example, you can spend $140.00 and get a MAC Products air intake like I got or waste your money on the Tornado, which doesn't do a thing except lighten your wallet. I have heard the same things that CobraXP mentioned: they're worthless. The upgrades I am doing: air intake (done), cat-back exhaust, and performance chip, in that order.
Try the Tornado if you like, but I think you're wasting your time/money.
Thanx for the info guys.
I thought it sounded too easy.
I have added a K&N FIPK and a tranny cooler.
I will probably add a Flowmaster 50 series soon and then think about a chip. Any other mods you would reccommend? I use the X for daily driving and pull a travel trailer in the summer.
By the way cobra....I looked at your X pictures...NICE wheels!
What are they?
The only thing the X didn't have when I bought it was the 5.0
It has every other creature comfort I wanted.
If you have any suggestions about "inexpensively" (cheap sounds so wrong) enhancing the 4.0 OHV I'd like to hear.
Thanx!
