Red face 53 dash cofiguration

I am fixing up my "53 F-100. I am confused about the layout of dashboard devices. I have always had a keyed ignition switch which starts the truck, but I am aware that a separate starter button was used in "53. Was the keyed starter an option?

I have never seen a keyed start ignition in these old trucks, mine is a 55 with the push button start. I'm modifying mine considerably from stock, but will keep the push button!
