I have a '48, and realized that the driver's door doesn't have a lock - I'm guessing it was a "safety" feature and the door has to be locked from the inside - forcing the driver to get out at the curb?
Anyway, when it's done, it'll have bucket seats, a mild cage and a shifter on the floor - I'm not interested in climbing over all the crap.
Can I fit a passenger side lock to it? Are there replacements made for the driver's side?
Your best bet is to find a 51-52 deluxe cab door since they had a drivers lock. Your drivers door won't have the provision to hold the lock and the different door handle linkage.

I spent a couple of weeks getting the lock mechanism out and keyed so I could lock the truck up but am tired of going out the passenger side. I may go with electric locks before it is all over unless I could find the drive side locking door. If you lock the pass door and leave on the driver door and lock it you are toast no way in not even with the key. Ed ke6bnl
What I was always told, was that the reason the drivers door didn't have a lock on the outside, was that the streets were narrower back then. You would unlock the passenger door and slide across to drive. Just like you said, it was a safety feature, so you didn't have to get in the street.
