Same thing happened to me!... Lady pulled out in front of me from a side street and I was in a 55mph zone. I hit her from behind. It went to a jury trial! I won.

I drive a city transit bus so Ive seen just about every bad driver that Columbus Ohio has to offer. <!not to offend anybody but I can tell you that any aisan FOB is the wqorst driver there is.>
I was in the local Napa store today, asked the counterman if they sold a large number of turn signal flashers, he said, "No, why?" I said, "Because there's sure a lot of people in this town with broken turn signals!" (One of my pet peeves) -TD
Personally, I think it's way too easy to get a driver's license these days. I don't know how other states do it, but here in Indiana it seems all you have to do to renew your license is pass the eye test. I'm amazed how many people I've spoken to that either never really knew or have forgotten some of the basic "rules of the road".
For the most part around here, it seems that the younger crowd and the seniors are totally lost behind the wheel. I can't count how many times I've seen youngins' driving like total idiots 'cause they're too busy yakkin' on the cell phone or more interested in what's going on in the back seat of their car. They just don't take driving as the serious business that it is. Older folks seem to think that since they've been driving for 60 years that they always have the right-of-way and they can do no wrong.
As for me, I'm fast closing on 47 years old and I'm proud to say I have an excellent driving record (knock on wood...lol). I've never had a accident that was my fault (been rear-ended twice 'cause the other drivers just weren't paying attention) and haven't had any accidents for well over twenty years. Lucky? Maybe. But I try to drive defensively and use my head, unlike so many on the roads these days.
I'm beginning to wonder if those of us with trucks shouldn't just start doing everyone a favor and "remove" the bad drivers from the roadway. When the officer shows up to do the "accident" report, the code phrase would be, "Sorry, sir, I had to take them off the road for everyone's safety." Or, "I had to use lethal force because others were in imminent danger to life, limb and property."
cpe41, I'm in north central IN, too, and I know EXACTLY what you mean. Unused turn signals, not knowing how to proceed at a 4-way stop to keep traffic flowing, changing lanes in an intersection, taking their half of the road out of the middle, "optional" redlights and stop signs, etc., etc., etc.
I don't personally get too bent out of shape about cell phones because I talk on one in my vehicle quite a bit myself. But, I have been doing so for 8.5 years, and it definitely is a learned skill. It's not something I would want to do in high-speed bumper-to-bumper traffic, though, that would be murder or suicide.
My mom and I have an ongoing battle with her 93-year-old father. He got in a bad accident a few years ago, totalled his Buick and the 'Vette that him, mostly his fault (My grandfather's). Six months or so before that, he had an accident that was totally his fault, he just forgot to stop at a red light. About $3,000 damage to his Buick, I don't know how much to the other car. The ongoing battle is this: he thinks he should still be allowed to drive and that we're just being mean because we won't let him. He can barely walk, has about zero reaction time, can hardly hear, and his vision isn't the best, not to mention his short-term memory. But he thinks he's still OK to drive. I say to Mom, "Just take him down to the DMV, let him take the test, that'll settle it." She's afraid that by some fluke he MIGHT pass, and then where would we be?! Good point, the streets are dangerous enough as it is. Every day as I come home from work, I'm tailgated by some soccer mom yakking on the phone while driving an SUV three times the size of my little Ranger, and I'm already 5-10 mph over the limit, or else it's some kids in their lowrider with the subwoofer thumping and they can't even see over the dashboard...I guess I'm just turning into an old fart! -TD
