If your Bronco has a speedometer cable chances are that it needs some grease. The cable is rubbing against the sleeve causing the needle to bounce up and down. There is an adapter for the end of the cable so you can put a grease gun to it. I don't know where the adapter is sold but maybe a transmission place will have it.
Try to get some grease in the cable and that should solve the problem. If you can remove the speedo cable so you can see how much grease is going in. You don't want to put too much grease.
Not too bad to do, you'll have to loosen the instrument cluster and right behind the speedo gauge the cable is held in by a clip or threaded on. Not too sure but it's one or the other.
No you're right, you can put grease on the tranny side. Sorry about that, haven't worked on a speedo cable for awhile. All these newer vehicles are running vehicle speed sensors.

If it have no grease fitting then just pull the cable out and pack grease in to the tube with the line , also, on 4wds the cable goes into the t-case. A 2wd tranny tailshaft has the spot for the speedo, but a 4wd tailshaft has nothing.
