Anyone here suffer from project burnout ? I have been working on my 79 Ford truck for just over 4 years now, got the rebuilt engine back in, painted the truck myself. Now, I have just lost my passion for it, I just have no heart to work on it, and have to force myself , say after leaving it alone for a week, to go back to it. It is sooo close to finishing up and being roadworthy again.
Its weird , because when I started on it, even with all of the huge amount of work that would have to be done on it, my tail was on fire to get out there and work on it every free minute. I always thought the closer to finishing it , and the prettier it got as it went back together, the more enthused I would be about it.... I dunno, jus' hope am not getting the oldtimersdisease,
I feel your pain. I'm about tired of my project as well I think I'm going on 3 years now. I've got enough invested to buy a nice new truck, and even more in blood, sweat and tears. But somehow, it's still an old truck that needs 100 different things fixed.

Glad to see I am not the only pumpkin in the patch. Money invested in it ?? whoa , I wont even go there, its unnerving...
I think we've all felt that way. After many projects ( and swearing each is the last), I now set no schedule and only work when I feel the call... comes and goes. It called today, I cut the tips off my pipes... will install new ones tomorrow.

Good point, sometimes I think the age factor plays in to it more than I care to admit.
Well at least you guys can see the light at the end of the tunnel.. I have about 4K to go in my build?? So I think..and about 2 years down the road...Before I think it might be right.. But..I'll keep on pluggin away..drink a beer tighten a bolt..drink a beer and tighten another bolt!! Ive got all the time in the world..
But I think I have more invested in beer, than I do in the motor,, But its fun! Russ
thanks for the post 08, nice project there. Sorry to see your out, but I know the feeling. Your pics just made me realize I have nothing to whine about, all I have left to do is , get engine fired up and set up, hood back on, colorsand, get racetrack moldings put back, new tires and wheels, exhaust system and its road time. I am renewed !
I once spent eight years on one project, a '50 Chebby coupe... not from a lack of energy or ideas, but lack of funds. It sported grey primer for over seven years. It was lowered, all body seams filled, headlights frenched, electric doors, hood and trunk, taillights filled and replaced with bumper lights, rolled and pleated interior, 400 inch Olds engine. I was one happy guy when I had many coats of black sprayed on and declared it finished. Then, after about three months, I picked up a '34 Chebby coupe and started over again.... seems like I'm not content without a work in progress.

i am feeling the pain now of project burnout. i have tight funds, and not enough time to put into the truck when i have the money. another thing is that when i get something fixed, it always seems to have something else go wrong with it. i thought i was making good progress, then i had a small engine fire. my truck, except for paint, is getting close to being done. all it needs is put back together. i can't wait to get it back out for the first time.
The Ranchero isn't mine, just one I found while surfing eBay, but my brother and I do have an ongoing project, our grandfather's '53 Plymouth. Brother's had it stored here and there for around 16 years now, we work on it when we've got the extra cash. http://www.meblan.net/cars/53plymouth.html Doesn't run, but no big hurry either. Got a '79 318 that we might try to put in it sometime. Or might leave the six-banger. My own "project" is an '82 Lincoln, but it runs fine, just needs stuff like body and interior, exhaust, etc., and I have no intention of restoring it.
I've had several cars that I've tinkered with, but I stay away from huge projects like that Ranchero. I want a '79 Ranchero and a '79 Cougar, but I'd rather find one in decent shape and just stick to maintaining it. No body-offs for me.
