Yeah I like the first cage as well, pretty sexy. Yeah sticks only have 30% deposition, whereas MIGs have around 60%. that 70% creates slag and stuff to put dots all around your welds, not to mention the sloppiness of the weld itself, unless your a pro (not Pro).
Fishy, can you use a TIG? Might just rent one of those and make the welds perfect if you can.

I think the greatest advantage to MIG is that is keeps the weld cooler, and helps to keep it from cracking. I wouldn't bother TIGing a cage, unless you are using chro-moly..

ya that's the biggest advantage! i think i am gonna use the first pic and model after it but instead of the guards around the wheel wells in the bed i am gonna have a bench seat and i wanna run the back of the cage down and to the outside and tie in to the frame rather than run it to the inside!

.
Thats for sure. All my welds look like somebody with a cold sneezed on them. Besides, even the best stick stiches don't look near as tight as an equally good mig weld.

A while back I was building an office building and the guy installing the structural steel was sticking some stuff and it looked like it was TIG'd. I was blown away. To say the guy was talented didn't even cover it.
