Ok, I've only had my truck for less than a week. There's about 250 miles on it. It's a 5.4L, 2WD, w/ 3.73 LS, I also swapped out the factory 18" and put on some 20" wheels. I've been pretty easy on the gas, and it's been mostly city driving.
Will my MPG get better as the engine breaks in? Or does this sound like an issue to bring up to the dealer?

Did you have your speedometer/odometer changed to compensate for the larger wheels? You could be travelling further than you think. Idling also is a big consumer of fuel.
Mine seems to be creeping up steadily as it breaks in. (I've had it 3 weeks). Never was as low as 11.7 though. Started out about 13.9, and now at about 15.1.
I'm hoping after I change the oil at 1000 miles, I'll see improved gas mileage. I figure that will be enough time for the engine to break in.
I did not get speedometer/odometer changed. I was under the impression that with 20'' wheels, there isn't a need. Only when you go up to 22", or add 35" tires. I did go about 80MPH for a good stretch on the freeway though.
So you guys trust the on board computer to tell you your MPG, or do you do it manually?
I have a SCREW 5.4 3.73 with 18" tires. Drove from Southern MI to Manitoba Ontario about 1900 miles round trip. I hooked up a GPS system and had the following results:
Top speed 93 MPH
Avgerage speed 73
After adding up all my gas and mileage, I got 18 Miles Per Gallon.
im getting the exact same mileage in my screw its 4 wheel drive though with the 3.73 limited slip. i have about 600 miles on it. it was around 10 when i first got it and its been going up slowly
My '04 SCREW is also only getting about 11.8 mpg. It has only 250 miles on it. When I first got it, I was getting about 11.3 but it is slowly increasing. (BTW - 5.4L 4X4 w/ 3.73)
It doesnt matter what size wheel you have, its the diameter of the tire. If you get one size larger tire, your speedometer will read faster than your actually going, which will give you a different reading. Does anyone know if you can calibrate the ford motor by reprogramming the tire, or do you need to change out a chip..
These trucks get good mileage (16 or so) if you are light on acceleration in traffic. I usually don't go over 2000 rpms, meaning enough throttle pressure to use that as a shift point. Of course there are those moments where you just have to mash it. I limit those to two or three per tank and I get 15-16 mpg.
