O2 sensor fyi
several months ago, on this forum, I asked for information about the necessity of changing the O2 sensors on my 1992 xlt 3.0 2wd stick 111k miles. Some told me that theirs had that many miles and more and had never been changed and had no problems, and others said it was adviseable to change them at 80-100k miles. My truck now has ~113k+ miles on it and I changed the O2 sensors a month or so ago (Bosch units purchased at AutoZone for ~$90 tax incl for both). Since then the truck seems to be running better (still idles rough, but I am looking into changing spark plugs to the ones spec'd out on this forum) and as far as I can tell, my gas mileage has improved. When it was new I was getting ~28 highway and ~24 town. Here of late, I was having a deterioration of my gas mileage ever since the truck had ~90k miles on it and it had dwindled down to 23 highway and 21 town. With the new sensors, summertime pinging has diminished to about 1/3 of what it was before. during the last 3 summers I was forced to use mid-grade gasoline to lower the pinging problem but that seems fixed for now.
Just wanted to thank you all for your input, especially the admin, and I hope this helps others with a similar problem.
sincerely,
xltdawg
