I just got a 78 F150 that the dash lights dont work on.
The seat belt light, bright light all work but the back light
and the blinkers dont. trying to get dash off but having trouble
with the wiper ****. ANY AND ALL HELP IS APPRECIATED!!
Instructions IN DETAIL ,for the wiper **** & headlight shaft/**** can be found by searching those exact words for this forum as they have been asked numerous times.
Check your dimmer switch. The little arm that touches the armature? (I forget what its called). It looks like a spring and its what twists around when you dim your cab lights and what not. Someone help me out here on what thats called. Do your gas and temp gauges ever stop workin?
On the wiper **** there is a metal tab that you have to pull forward with a pair of small needle nose plyers. The shaft that the **** sits on is round except for one side that has been flattened out, thats where the top of the tab should be. (should be facing up).
by back light i mean the light that illuminates the dash.work on it this morning and got the radio and heater control lights to work also the cab (clearence)lights started to work.dont ask me what i done 'cause i dont know.i have read the post about the wiper switch, but i don't see the little tab.
Those are called the *instrument cluster lighting*
It's not a tab,
On top or bottom of the plastic **** near the dash is a little 1/8" slot.
Put a small screwdriver in there (as the friction holder spring needs to be slackened so you are taking the pressure off the spring) and pull forward toward the seat.
1) Disconnect Battery.
2) Remove radio *****
3) Remove two screws under radio bezel
4) remove instrument cluster bezel screws
5) Put transmissaion in Low gear.
6) Place towel on column to prevent scratching
7) Pull headlight switch to headlights on Position >
With Right side of bezel loose reach in to top of headlight switch and depress button while pulling the switch **** out all the way.
8) Remove Wiper **** (Take a jewellers screwdriver and poke it up in the slot, behind the spring metal clip.
Pull the **** with the screwdriver against the clip towards the seat.
Voila ! It slides right off.
I bent a small screwdriver with a 90* bend on the tip to use for that purpose.)
Unplug light to wiper/washer lens
9) Undo the 4 screws that hold the cluster.
10) If your have cruise control> disconnect speedo cable from speed sensor under the hood. If you don't, go directly to 11
11) Grab speedo cable retainer and squeeze the keeper.
12) Pull cluster toward you and lay on towel.
13) Grab the tangs at both ends of the cluster connector and squeeze & pull out.
14) Have a sip on something cold
thank alot for the help i got it off but the cluster fell apart in my hands.Guess ill be looking for a new one.the speedo had two 1/4" bolts holding it in on mine.
Thanks so much for the help, you guys are life savers.I found a cluster at a junkyard for $75.Is this a fair price.I seen them at "BRONCOGRAVEYARD" for about the same, but I am sure theirs have been tested. Is there anything to look for (besides not crumbling into a million pieces) when I pick this part up.Also they have a real nice dash pad for $45 that I need.
Just started to dive into this truck,I known I need a bed and floorpan, other than that the truck is pretty solid.Down the road i am going to swap the I6 for a 302.It has a three on the tree, and i was wondering how hard it would be to make it a floor shift, can i use the same tranny or is it a different set up all together.
is that enough crap in one post or what. THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!
