drivin to work this morning i stopped to get coffee...when i started my truck the abs light started flashing rapidly, i couldn't shift out of park without shutting the truck off and shifting into nuetral, while driving the abs is constantly rapidly flashing. 95 F-150 4 wheel drive....any ideas guys?
Sounds like the rear abs module is fried. I believe it sits inside the frame a little forward of the cab. You might try unplugging it so your truck is drivable, but I'd get it checked out ASAP. Also make sure that it's not leaking brake fluid. Sometimes the modulating pin will leak fluid.
Is there a brake safety interlock to shift out of park? Maybe check to make sure the brake light switch (or the interlock switch if it is different) is working correctly. The ABS module is behind the glove box, the valve the abs uses to modulate rear brake pressure is on the frame. There is a way to pull abs codes, but I am not sure how that works on a '95. If you can stand living without abs, unplug the electronic module behind the glove box and see if that makes the problem disappear. This could be a temporary fix if you want to regain full abs function later on.
The abs computer is behind the glove box (computer, module I probably called it two different things, but I'm referring to the same thing). The modulator valve is underneath the truck on the frame.
If you can figure out how to pull the abs codes, I would try that first. I don't remember there being a code that long and I thought the test had to be initiated by someone. I would think the computer module first - usually if there is a problem with the abs system, such as the modulator valve on the frame, the light would come on and stay on - not flash. I'm not familiar with the 95 truck so I can't say for sure how to pull the abs codes.
I have that same, long code. I'm always driving, so always fail with the flash count, but it must be 14, then one long flash, then 14 again. Mine started, oh, about two weeks ago.
i think i figured mine out....where my trailer wiring plugs into the wiring harness in the back, the wire had rubbed through and was grounding out the brake lights....just a simple short....although i just figured this out last night and haven't driven since....so we'll se if this takes care of the problem.
