Ok I test drove a truck Ive been looking at buying, just had around a 6in lift and 35in tires put on it. When I came to a stop sign, that **** did NOT want to stop, I had to really put my foot into the pedal. Anyways I was reading up on some things about when you put on bigger tires you have to recalibrate the ABS or something. Well can someone tell me more about this? I hope theres something wrong then I can get the dealer to lower the price....
Nothing I know of that they can do to the ABS.
It's the nature of the beast , larger tire, larger reciprocating mass, harder to stop.
People have said by going to stainless lines, they brakes feel better, I never tried them, although I know they do work on my bikes.
you can re-calibrate your speedo, witch is through the ABS modual.. however it does nothing for the ABS...i have steel lines... could not feel any differance...I disconnected my ABS sytem and like the way the brakes work w/out better due to larger tires... the ABS cannot work at 100% when you throw off something in the equation.... instead of having miscalibrated ABS trying to stop my truck... i just went ABSless same as all my current and previous cars/race bikes. With me at the control... i can stop the truck faster w/out them disconnected... may or may not be the case for everyone

pull out the only 60amp fuse under the hood fuse box.... the dash ABS light will come on.. some guys have gone in and pulled the bulb after they did this... i just covered up with an american flag sticker... you can pull the fuse and try it... the brakes will feel allot more responsive, of course you cant steer as well if you lock up all four in a panic!.....but at least youll be slowin down!
Be aware, that if you are involved in a "bad" accident, your screwed.....
I was a few years ago, with a different truck, DOT impounded my truck for 3 days, and went through every thing, all checked out, but I would not want them to find out that I "altered" the braking system.....
Yeti was that a commercial vehicle you were driving?... i think that if they wanted to get picky on a lifted truck theres a million things they could point out if they wanted to.... however yeah.. if i did get in a wreak... that fuse is the first thing id be installing.
I was driving a 1/2 ton pickup at the time, but here in NY they register them as commercial.
As far as DOT, they look for reasons a wreck happened, if they find anything altered they got you.
Luckily for me, they only found a faulty emergency brake cable, which they concluded, would of not affected breaking in this case.
I'm not one for following every letter of the law, and really never paid to much attention to things, until that happened, now it's always in the back of my mind
