a/c not cold

Hello all. I have been searching for over an hour and still no results. I have a 2001 Ford SD gasser, I have been looking for the fix that puts the antifreeze cutoff into the heater core return? line. I think it used a Ford ranger heater control valve? I can't find the threads anywhere but I know they are here. I should have done it last year but didn't get to it, now summer is here and i'm tired of warm a/c. HELP! Thanks

i have heard that mod will make the a/c colder on the max a/c setting, if you noticed i said colder ,if the a/c is not cold, something is wrong. you may want to start by checking out the a/c system before you do all the work on that mod just to find out that is not the problem.

My 2003 reg cab has the gray vaccuum hose but not the valve so I think only the larger cabs, maybe extended and crew cabs have them. The excursions and some Rangers have them too.

it seems that this mod wont make the a/c itself colder, but the air going through the evaporator and then the heater core; it wont absorb any heat from the heater core because antifreeze isnt going through the heater core.

Thats what Imeant, the a/c is fairly cold but I do not have this cut off valve to make it colder like it should be. Went to the diesel site but it is "out of stock. There was a thread on here where they used a Ford Ranger valvle. There was a parts list with the part # also for a nice little kit. we're on the right track though. Thanks all.

Somebody posted a small discription and part # for the Valve( ford ranger valve I think?) all parts needed and even where to tap into the power? and the vacum port. Anyone........ Thanks.

It is a 2003. There is no part number on it that I can see.

I looked in the DVD manual for the truck and they show a picture of one, but no associated part number for it.

It makes reference to there being two different types. One for a vehicle that has the automatic air temp settings and one that doesn't like mine.

The valve part no. is Auto Zone #223861 74819 Heater control. I stumbled onto the message back when it was first posted and copied the part no. but did not save the installation instruction. He said the bring the vacum hose inside the cab behind the glove box and splice into the existing heater vacum hose system. I just do not remember which one. So if someone can find the original post, so I can install the valve I sure would apprciate it. You guys who want to talk about hot and cold did not see the original post. The reason you use this valve is to keep the hot water from going into the heater core inside the cab. The heat off the core and the little leakage of warm air around the heater door make it harder for the A/C system to cool things down when it is 100 plus outside and 150 plus inside. Also when you use the outside air during the summer the heat from the heater is also passed along into the cab if the door does not seal perfectly. Since I have a 1999 F-350 V-10 with 378000 miles some thing do not seal like they use too. Thanks for the help.

Don't expect a huge difference if you put in the heater core shutoff valve; It only made mine about 2-3°F cooler.
