2001 explorer sport speaker
Hey, I have a 98 Sport which has basically the same interior. The speakers are pretty easy to swap, especially in the rear. The grills just pop off and you unscrew the old ones. When installing the new ones, you can get wire harnesses at Circuit City, etc. to tie the aftermarket speakers into the factory wiring without any splicing/soldering.
The front speakers take a little more work because you have to remove the door panels. The door panels have a couple screws by the door handle to take out (atleast on mine) and the rest of it is held in by friction clips. I also had to pop out the little piece of trim that surrounds the release handle. You can a tool to remove the friction clips or just give it a good tug (if the clips break, I'm sure you can get more at Autozone, etc. - mine were fine). Once they are all loose, just slide it out of the lip by the window. I then popped out the piece of the panel w/ the window controls and just let it hang there. I unplugged the power mirror switch from the driver's door. Now that the door panels are off, just unscrew the speakers and replace them the same way as in the back. It sounds hard but it really isn't.
Good luck
