Timing mark pointer missing

Timing mark pointer missing
Hi everybody,
I have a 3.0 engine ford aerostar.My problem is I can not find the pointing mark in the manual its say below the water pump.But i searched high,low,left,right and I can't find it.I did replace the water pump last year
that could have something to do with it.Any suggestions lets assume its gone How could I set the timing.I know the procedure.Just have no refferance
point.

The numbers for timing are written on the vibration dampner. The pointer is hard to see but if you shine a light down from the passenger side of the car down at the dampner you should be able to see it. It's really really hard to see. good luck.

The only thing i found was a fat bulge with what looks like had a pointer on it.I looked from under and above can not find it.ill keep looking so far I set the timing by ear and feel.I know thats not best but all i have for now until i find it.
