My Temp gauge suddenly gave up the ghost. The indicator shows "cold". According to the book, as the temp increases the resistance lowers and the guage reacts accordingly. Would a failure of the sending unit show high resistance?
I would suspect a loose connection. If the wire came off of the sending unit you would have very high resistance to ground. Thus a COLD reading all the time. Since it came on suddenly I would think loose wire again. Hit a bump and the wire breaks or comes off and suddenly you have a cold reading all the time. If the problem were more gradual. I might think the sending unit was going bad.
Thanks Tom. I already checked the connector, but it was on....I guess I'll go chasing wires again. This car had been sitting up for 4 years when I bought it to replace my 90.....at one point squirrels had mad a nest under the hood and chewed through the wire for my right front turn signal. That was fun to locate. I suppose I'll just go from plug to plug and test ( I have the electrical and vaccum troubleshooting guide - really helpful publication).
