Hi Guys,

Was on my way home the other night I stopped to pick up some odds and ends. When I came out to the van, and hit the starter, I got the dreaded check engine soon light. I figured maybe just a bad momentory connection, but it didn't go out. I did the battery disconnect, but it came back a few days later.

Anyway I went to A.Z. to have the codes read, when I saw a scanner on sale for a hundred. I figured it was time..so I got one. Works good so far. Picked up a problem with the intake air temp sensor. I checked the book, and they have a drawing of it being screwed into the intake manifold. I turned off the light with the scanner, but it came back again. I guess I know what I'll be doing tomorrow.

According to the book it looks like an easy fix. Looks like it might be better going in from the dog house.

I'm wondering if anyone has done this lately, and can give me a tip or two.

Thanks

I think the dog house side has more room. My van is strictly for work, no passengers, so I keep the seat out all the time. Makes things much easier.

Hi Trike,

Thanks for the post.
I had a bunch of things to do today, but I got the dog house off, and cleaned the area up a bit.
That dog house is a pain on the conversion vans, carpeting everywhere. At least I got it out the door, and sitting in the back of the van. Thought I'd be all done today, and I barely got started. I'm studying the drawings in the Chilton's...looks like it's right behind #6 injector. I'll be out tomorrow with a drop light, see if I can find the little bugger.

Was wondering if the upper manifold can be taken off this 351..looks real tight. Not for this sensor, but future refferance. Figure I'll do the plugs and PCV valve while I'm looking at them.

I'm assuming I need to drain the anti-freeze before I take out the IAT sensor. Has anyone bought one? How much roughly?

Leo, you can remove the upper intake (plenum) while the engine is in the van.. I did it on mine. It's a bugger tho.... that middle torx bolt is a bear... If you remove it, it would be a good time to clean the runners, oven cleaner works very well so I have been told.. I will soak mine when I do it, in a cleaner bath.

Hi Pfogle,

Thanks for the comeback on the plenum. Hope it doesn't have to come off soon. Maybe someone will come up with a good idea..like those guys that cut holes in the inner fender to get at certain plugs. I've heard of the tork bolts before. They must stay up nights at Ford, trying to think of ways to make things more difficult.

I looked up the price of the income air temp sensor, only $24.95. That makes me feel better, even if it is a pia to get to.

Gotta go...Thanks again!!
