I didnt see anything in the manual. we have a towing package on our '96 4-door v-6 with a class 3 hitch. What would my towing capacity be? I need to tow my '66 F-100 from Minnesota to Illinois and I will be using a car trailer(not dolly).
Thanks,
Josh Andersen

I would really suggest making sure your trailer has electric trailer brakes before this venture. I have the 302 in my X, and have pulled a few cars, trucks, and even a 6,000lb John Deere tractor on my tandem trailer (it weighs 1450lb). Also make sure you stay out of overdrive on the trip if you have an automatic, and only use 4th if it is a manual.
Although I do not have personal experience with the 4.0, my uncle has a '98 with the 4.0. He pulls his 24 foot speedboat, a house trailer, and a few vehicles also with his (not at the same time of course ) I talked to him and he said he has not had any problems out of the tranny while pulling any of the trailers or toys...
Anytime I have pulled anything heavy, I always stay out of OD. Especially if you pull any hills, or have to work the engine and tranny. It is one of the fastest ways of burning up a tranny.
