Okay guys PLEASE help me out here! This is driving me nuts!
I have a 97 Ford Explorer Sport with the keyless entry and remote locks. Recently my locks have been doing something really weird. I'll walk out to the car and unlock it with my remote and they will click but the car won't unlock!!! I'll click it a few more times and the car sounds like it's unlocking and I can see the locks shaking down in the hole but nothing happens!!! It's really pissing me off. So I tried sticking my key in the lock and do it manually and it won't turn! The ONLY way I can get in my Explorer is by opening the tailgate and hitting the unlock switch in the back and it will then unlock the passenger door but I have to crawl through the passenger door and manually open the driver door from the inside. This is getting annoying. Oh and the keyless entry doesn't do anything either. Just acts like it's unlocking but it won't.
Your lock mechanism has probably failed on your driver's door or the actuator shaft might have popped off. You will need to have someone remove the interior door panel to take a look inside to see what's wrong. In the mean time, you should be able to hit unlock on your remote twice within 2 seconds to unlock your passenger door rather than have to go through the hatch. I would think you would have already tried this so if you have, then your passenger side lock might be bad also.
Yup I tried that too. Neither one of them will open. Once I get them open though the remote will work. I've had them work since the episode this morning. It's just sometimes they won't open. It just seems like lately in the morning when it's cold or snowed they don't work. Is this a coincidence or does moisture and cold have any effect on the lock inside the door? Just seems odd.
Okay so how come my key lock won't turn?
Thanks for the advice!!! I'm dreading having that fixed by a rip off dealer!!! Is this something that can easily be replaced or should I have a dealer check it out? My boyfriend fixes just about anything but if it's a pain I won't even bother to ask. I know taking the door apart would be the biggest pain in the *** of all. I can't wait to sell this damb thing.
If there is any moisture in there at all, it could be freezing your latch mechanism. If it were mine I would remove the panel and look around inside. I would also spray down the inside with WD-40 to prevent the moisture from freezing in case that is what is happening.
My 1997 Explorer Sport just started doing the same thing your did. My truck won't even lock or unlock. I hear the lock motors spining but nothing happens. I was wondering if you ever found out what was causing your problem. MSg me back. thanks.
This happened to me in Germany on humid days with my BMW. Somehow, condensation (probably due to temperature differences) was getting in the lock mech and freezing overnight. So it was frozen. I didn't realize what was going on until the wife used the lock heater and it worked. After that I put some of that lock grease/antifreeze in the little can in it and never had the problem again. The can was roughly $1.50.
I never did have the problem checked out as it only has happened once this year and now that it's super cold out I haven't been locking it in my driveway. Nothing in there to steal anyway and quite personally if someone stole it I wouldn't be the least bit upset. They would probably ditch it down the road when they saw that the gas light was on. Ha ha!!!!!!
But to answer your question, no I don't know what caused it. Until it does it a lot I'm not going to worry about it. I'm too busy trying to get the damb thing started cuz some stupid sensor went out in it.
