1993 4.0L a few days ago my speedometer (not digital) went wacky. It spins randomly and stalls at either the top or bottom end also the digital odometer flashes on and off at the same time. Then the van surges forward or back as if reacting to cruise control. At the same time the radio will either go off or more likely go to 600 AM. Any clues as to whats going on? I'm baffled
I have the exact same problem with a 92 sport 3L. I've checked the fuses, but they all seem good. It does seem like an electrical problem of some sort. Good luck to both of us!
I took the van in to a mechanic today and the problem was a .99 cent fuse. The speedometer, odometer, radio, and the jerking at 60 km or so is now back to normal. I hope that saves someone the time and cost!
I can't remember now, but I just got one off the rack where they had the fuses. Might be Buss. One of the "universal fit" where you can break off the tabs on the contacts depending how deep your fusebox is. Whoever came up with that idea for using breakers in place of the plugin fuses needs to be thanked many times over.
I had a Geo once that kept blowing tailight fuses, and we couldn't find the short. I replaced the fuse with a breaker and never had any more trouble with it.
