Okay fellow Ex owners......I need to replace my spark plugs myself. I am really really PO'd at my local dealer. Where can I get step by step instructions for pulling this off? I have found bits and pieces here and there in forums and best one was step by step for 5.4 for F150'2. (Ex is 5.4) Can someone help me here? Please do not make me suck it up and pay Ford dealer any more money. Just the thought of that makes me wanna go Chevy! (j/k)
I wish I had of gone diesel. I owned a 95 F350 Powerstroke crew cab dually that was heaven on earth. I traded it for the Excursion. To me there is nothing the purr, growl, roar, hum or twang of a diesel.
Be glad it's an X with the 5.4 and not a van with the V10. Our '97 E-350 Club Wagon with the V10 (144K miles) needs plugs and at least one coil pack. That's going to be a heckuva job to do, lemme tell ya. With the old '87 E-150 with the 302, we could get a lot of the plugs through the wheel wells with a wobble socket or two and a lot of extensions. I don't know how in the heck we're gonna get these out, though, because you have to take the coil off each one first, which involves removing a retaining screw and wiggling it loose. Ick - sure wish we had the PSD. Our '97 Expedition with the 5.4 (118K miles) needs plugs and a coil pack too, but it should be a little easier to do - better access and fewer cylinders.
Good luck!
Isaac

Isaac I think you might find the van is no harder to replace plugs on than the Expy is.
It's not really as bad as it looks.
I always start by removing the front seats to make more room to work. It only takes 5 minutes to remove the seats.
I would have thought it i would have had 50 responses by now on changing these stupid things. I guess it is going to be a way tough job. Grrr. I almost panicked with the hood and windshield statement there capt dan...then I saw your j/k
I think the best way to repair it would be to park it in El paso with the keys in it and a 20 on the font seat for gas. (wait gas prices make it a 50)
