Keyless entry

I just purchased a 2002 Explorer XLT. it has a keyless entry but no code. I checked the owners manual and it siad to look at the "computer module". Can anyone tell me where this is located. someone mentioned on the passenger kick panel around the fuel reset button? is this right. thanks in advance.... Charlie

I just talked to a friend at Ford. He said the code is not labelled on the computer module, nor anywhere on the X as it was on previous years. You have to take it in and let them hook it up to the machine and it will read it from the computer module.

Yes, a $29.00 charge (ripoff), at least at my local dealer.

For your '99, it's the cover on the driver's side in the cargo area, the place where the jack is stowed. "Battery cable box" is a little misleading- this is a good place to STORE your battery cables! There is a computer module in this area, towards the front of the vehicle. You'll need a flashlight and a mirror to see it, but there is a sticker on this module, and printed on this sticker is the 5-digit keyless code. Again, it's tough to see; try pulling back on the plastic cover a bit to read it.

As for the 2002, that's in a different area. I'm working on it, should have an answer later today.

Still trying to find this sticker. Checked with my service manager- we don't charge a customer just to hook up their vehicle to pull the keyless code. Hopefully you can find a local dealer willing to do the same.

That's cool. SO MANY dealers charge out the rear for computer diagnostic stuff.

You guys are my new, best friends. Still confused and wondering if the location was the same on my 2000 Explorer I climbed my big self (not a small feat in and of itself) into the cargo area, removed the access door to the jack and low and behold there was the affore mentioned white box with a sticker that took some prying and flashlight work to be able to read the factory code. Changed the code to one of my choice and I am now doing my business in high cotton.

Thanks

I had the same thing happen. You need to go to your Ford service station and they will give you the code.

THANKS!!! I just bought a 1995 Explorer XLT and the only place the manual mentions the "computer module" is when it talks about the code. It never says where it is or how to get the number.
I read this string and found mine using the shiny blade of a butter knife and a flash light. It is in the cargo area where the jack and the rear washer reserve are. Mine was a gray plastic box with a bunch of wires going in and out that was located to your right as you face the opening. It has a white sticker on the side with 5 large numbers. Larger then the other numbers and words on the sticker.

Ok but what if some one changed the code? Like a previous owner. Thankfully I am the proud owner of an 03 EB but lets just say this happens to a friend will the factory code still work?

There is a process for setting a personal code but the factory code always works. You can always change the personal code by following the process in the owners guide.
