Air Conditioner Charging
The pump in my '70 sport custom mysteriously started working the other day, after three years of owning the truck it has never run. The underdash controls and fan all work, but the pump never had. My question is this, I've heard that you can mix the new and old refrigerants together with no problems, is this true? What will it do to my 34 year old pump gaskets if I do put it in there, and is there an adaptor available to convert the new style filler hose to the old fittings? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Do not mix the new and old refrigerants together since you will destroy what is left of your cooling system. I would pressure check the system and then look at the clutch. Do not add anything to the system until you pressure check it.

That's kinda what I thought. But the good news is next day got a copy of the new Acme aftermarket products, and on the first page there is a refill kit with 3 different adaptors for all the way back to pre '76 models with the old fittings on them. And better yet it only cost $20! Will be getting that for the adaptors if nothing else!!
