Lockout problems

I need to grease my bearings in my 75 f100 4x4, and the lockout bolts on both sides are rusted and if you try to take them out it just strips the allen head part. Any suggestions?

Soak 'em overnight with pb blaster. Never hurts to wake them up with a couple smart raps with a hammer either.

If that doesnt work try some heat, but not too much, just enough to break the corrosion bond. If you put too much to them you can melt the lockout body or plastic dial-Worst case-you drill heads off, then use locking pliers on remainder after removing cap.

The first time I pulled mine, I had the same problem. Iended up having to drill the heads off several of them. Interestingly, the bolt heads were what were corroded in place, the threads were all perfectly clean you just cant put much torque on those little allen heads to get them loose...

A liberal coating of anti-seize goop will prevent the problem from reappearing.

i had to drill the head off of one b/c it was stripped out! then i replaced all my hub bolts with a set of star head bolts cause you can get more torque on them and don't have as big of a problem stripping them out

i use a thread chaser now every time i pull my hubs aparts to keep the threads good and clean....never had a problem since!
