Has anyone ever replaced the passenger power mirror? My glass mirror fell out and the studs on the back of the plastic frame that holds the mirror are broken off. Most shops say to replace the entire mirror pod (70.00 to 200.00 dollars).. All I want to do is get a mirror with a frame with all the studs so I can just pop mine back in. Any thougths? Any suggestions?
I looked around for the same exact thing a while back when I took out my driver's side mirror one night backing out of my garage (please, don't ask ).
I could not even find what I wanted at any of the local yards ...one place had the whole mirror assembly and wouldn't take off the "plate" part that I needed. Those clowns wanted $65+ tax for the whole thing, which I thought was highway robbery for a used mirror, anyway. Then I looked on eBay for a few days, but no go. I got tired of the broken mirror real quick, so I ended up buying a brand new OEM replacement. Found one on the net for $85+, so it was about $100 delivered to my door. Not cheap, but I suppose I had to pay for my bone-headed move.
Thanks for the info Rock, sounds like my situation. My youngest son just comes in and tells me it just "fell off"...anyway I called Ford and these clowns want $213.00. I called the junk yard and they siad they didn't have any but could order me one for $59.00. SO far that looks like my best bet. I'm mad Ford did this...I rented a Chevy van for vacation last year and busted the passenger mirror, and bought just the galss for 18.00 and it popped right in. With ford we buy the whole thing...maybe when I chaneg my plugs I'll have to replace the engine.
The problem is with that darn frame/plate with the studs that holds the glass. If that part is broke, then they know got ya...
FWIW, replacing the entire mirror assembly is very easy and straightforward. Just remove the door panel, and then remove the speaker from the door so that you can unclip the mirror's harness connector. Peel back the small plastic dust shield that you'll see up near the corner of the door & window where the mirror is located. Behind that dust cover is 3 bolts. That's all there is to it.
