i need to know if i can turn my injector pump down. the previous owner put a new injector pump on and said he turned it up to pump more fuel. i have noticed i put out more black smoke than the other diesels do. i have put a new engine in, but used the old injector pump and still put out to much smoke at slight accellarations. the engine doesn't miss and has plenty of power but it annoys me and others that i put out more black smoke than others.

 

Ok looking at the truck from the front, looking at the injector pump, on the left side, passanger side you will see a small cover with two 1/4 screws holding the cover, remove the top screw and loosen the bottome screw so the cover swings down, now remove the front cover on injector pump, so as you can look at the timing gear, there are two small bolts 1/2 heads holding this inplace, on the older 6.9 it is where the oil fill is at. Now turn the engine till the dowl is on the top, this will set the injector pump so you can adjust. now take a 5/32 allen and insert it into the hole on the side of the injector pump, to richen up you would turn clockwize to lien it out you would turn counterclockwize. You only need to turn less than one side of the allen.
