I am new to this forum so if this is not posted in the right place, please let me know. I have an 03 Expy EB 4x2/entertainment dvd/4.6L. 31,000 miles. I bought it new and have not have any problems until about a month ago. On the left side of the instrument panel there is a battery light that comes on and a dinging sound (really irritating) and on the right side in the info center, it reads CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM. It is a intermitant problem. I have had it at the dealer twice and of course it would not occur when it was there and they can't find the problem. They say Ford is aware of the problem, but there is no fix at this time. Anybody else had this problem and answer?
Thanks
It is an intermitant problem, it happened twice today. Both times immediately after starting and lasting about 1 minute each time. The techs at our dealer checked the alternator and said it was putting out 14.5-15 volts (or is it that amps?) Thanks for any suggestions!
UPDATE
I bought a volt meter that plugs into the lighter plug and it stays at 13.5 - 14v even when the battery light is on and the info center is flashing "check charging system". I think maybe a short? is there some type of relay that controls the warning system?
Help?
