The pedestal rockers from a mid 70's 460 are perfect, but the pedestals must be cut down between 0.100" and 0.125" (don't remember the exact number) to fit because they are way too tall. The geometry is fine. Another rocker that is almost a direct bolt on is from a late model 3.8 V6. These rockers actually touch the pushrods when bolted down on my mock up head, but didn't provide any lifter preload at all. If the head had been milled 0.020-0.030 they would have been perfect, or if the head was rebuilt with slightly longer valves. Harland Sharp makes a 1.73 and 1.8 ratio roller for the 3.8 that has an adjustable pushrod cup. Probably big bucks, but it's there. I am going to use the stock 460 rockers instead of V6 rockers because they will cost the same to make work and the 460 rockers are a beefier design so they won't deflect as much.

If you are running a 240 or EFI head the old style pistons that are almost flat tops result in about 9.6-9.8:1 compression. The EFI pistons have a 33cc dish, the earlier ones are only 19cc. You could mill the tops of the pistons truly flat to get rid of the very small dish, then either deck the block or offset grind the crank to get the deck clearance back where it should be and probably get up to 10.5:1.

I have a built up 300 that I have run over 100,000 miles to date. I installed Crane roller rockers when I built the engine and have yet to have any trouble at all. I am running a Crane 270 cam w/stock valve springs. I did have a clearance issue with the stock valve cover which was overcome by installing a set of pushrods from a Dodge 225 six which were about .250 shorter and machined the hold-down sleeve nuts about .125 shorter.
