I have adapted a 89 dodge ramcharger wiper motor to my 53 f100 and it seems to work ok. My question is does anyone have any idea what the 4 connections on this wiper motor are for. One is low speed, one high speed.....????? The other 2.....???? Also, what type of wiper switch could a person use that you could use the original dash **** and be able to mount it in the stock dash location????
any help would be excelllent!!!
I would guess the other two are: "off" and a ground wire.
As far as an aftermarket wiper switch with a stock dash ****, I had the same dilemma and went to NAPA. They thumbed through pages of wiper switches 'til we found something that'd work. If that doesn't fly for you, can you adapt the Ramchager switch to accommodate your stock dash ****?
I used a 95 Windstar motor and the switch from mid 80's Ford pu that has the delay function. I have an extra switch with the delay function module. You can have it for $25 plus shipping if your interested. It has wires for high, low, delay/park, and ground. No **** on it, but you could probably use your old **** or an after market ****. I used the aftermarket. If you don't want the delay function, suppliers like Ron Francis and Watson's Streetworks have switches for around $20. Good luck.
I might be interested! Where are you located? What is a delay module and would it work with a dodge wiper motor? do you know what the 4 terminals on this wiper motor are for?
Here is an educated guess, knowing nothing about dodge (or most) wiper motors. The four wires are fast, slow, park and ground. The park, or "off" wire circuit would route through a position switch within the wiper gearbox to sense the park position. It would have 12V on it with the wiper switch in the off position and would stop the blades when they reach the park position. Most delay circuits I've worked on are external to the wiper motor and act to energize the slow circuit just long enough to get the blades out of the park position.

I believe Johann 5 has given a good description of the wiper motor wires. The 80's Ford wiper switch with external delay (intermittent wiper) module is easy to hook up, just determine your fast, slow, and delay/park wires on your Dodge motor and connect to the same wires on the module plus the 12v and ground wire. The Ford switch/module has the following color wires:
Black/green stripe - To Run/acc on ignition switch
Red - to wiper motor, 12v
White - wiper motor LO
Dark blue/orange stripe- wiper motor HI
Black/pink stripe - park/delay
Black/white stripe - washer pump (don't use unless you want to hook up washers)
There is a black ground wire on the switch that requires connection to ground
The switch **** shaft pushes in to activate the washer function.
Using this switch should give you Lo speed, Hi speed, and intermittent wiper function plus the washer if you desire.
Most likely not the same color code for Dodge but using a hot wire from your battery you should be able to determine the function of each Dodge motor wire. I'm in the greater Kansas City area on the Kansas side.
Thanx a bunch guys!!!! This site is THE BEST!!! I have only been on here for a couple months and I can't tell you how much help it has been!!!!! Keep up the great work and I hope I can return the favors someday!!!! Up here in the great white north , there are not a lot of places to turn to for help! All we have up here are SNOW, RAIN and old trucks!! Lots of them!! Thanx agaiN!!!
All I have done so far is remove the original vacuum motor and bolt on th 89 ramcharger motor(using the original linkage). I had to re-drill one mounting hole in the original mounting bracket. I also took the swing? arm from the original linkage and bolted it directly on the ram motor. so now instead of the original linkage arms swinging back and forth, the new arm rotates and in turn causes the linkage to pivot back and forth. Confused? I wish I had a digital camera, I could take a picture and post it in my gallery. Hope this helps! Any questions let me know!
P.s. This 89 ramcharger motor is supposedly the same as an early 90s dodge caravan motor.
The switch was out of a '53 or '54 Custom Cab that had the electric wiper option. It has the park setup but not intermittant. I have the switch and delay box out of a '73-79 Ford truck that I have been getting ready to install real soon now-for 3 years or so.
You ought to be able to run the non delay switch and have non delay wipers.
