Leaf Sprng Brackets

I have a 1993 Ford F-150, 2 wheel drive, with broken leaf spring brackts. They are rivoted on. Wht is the best way to get those brackets off, and do you jack up the bed to get the springs down to get back in to the nw brackets?

You can grind the rivets off with an angle grinder or cutoff tool or chisel them off with an air chisel or torch them off or drill them out. Be careful of the gas tanks and fuel lines if you use the torch. Drilling would probably be the most difficult way to do it. You shouldn't have to jack up the bed to put the springs back on. Lift the frame and support it on jack stands high enough to allow the axle to droop below it's normal distance from the frame and support the axle on another set of jack stands. Use a floor jack to position the axle and springs. Use a prybar to help align the leaf eyes with the mounting holes.

Leaf Spring Mount Rusted

I also need to replace a leaf spring mount. I have a 94 F150 with 110000 miles and have had no problems until now. I just came in from outside after looking at the truck and thought maybe I should buy a newer one. However after a little searching I discovered sticker shock. So I started looking for a discussion board like this to find some answers. I am really glad to be here and will be asking lots of questions.

Welcome to FTE!

I'd drill them out instead of cutting/torching/grinding. I just flipped the rear leaf spring mounts on my 78 and they were riveted on. Took less than an hour to do both sides.

Start with a 1/8" bit and drill deep enough to get up to or just past the frame (there's no need to go all the way through). Move up in bit sizes (like 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", etc... or 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", etc...) until the head of the rivet pops off. Then use a drift and pop the rivet out.

The other methods will work, but with being that close to the fuel, I'm a bit nervous about showers of sparks or open flames.

As for replacements, I'd get 'em from a juskyard. If you have a good cordless drill and lots of spare batteries, you can pull them yourself. If you can't, at least look at the ones you want before they pull them.

Good luck.

Is it possible to reverse the shackles on a 95 f-150? Mine appear to be one way only.
