I posted this in the Bronco II section, but may get better results here:
As the message states...I think I blew a timing chain. The truck ran great, then at a stop light it just died. No restart, looks like the distributer (rotor) is not spinning.
The truck is a 1990 Bronco II in other wise great shape, but the underside and engine compartment is very rusty. Is this worth repairing? I have done timing chains myself, and may attempt it, but the rust may make it a pain in the azz to do. I also thought of an engine swap, but again, the rusty lines, (ac, power streering, etc) and rusty engine mounts might make it a challange. What should I do? What would it cost at a shop?
you said the truck ran great, so why swap motor, also you said youve done timing chains so you know what has to happen for that job. doing it yourself would be a cheap fix to get your BII back on the road and id do it cause not too many of thoes around anymore
Ya, I just don't want to spend my vacation doing it...was wondering if there is anything special on the 2.9 V6 that will give me any problems. Do I have to pull the oil pan like on a chevy 350?
actually on a chevy 350 you can just loosen up the front two bolts on the oil pan and the timing case cover will slip in there with a little persuasion
