Time to shop for new rubber... my god, when did the prices go up so high? The same Goodyear's I put on 4 years ago at $85 are now $125? Ouch.
Anyhoo... What do you think of the latest Firestone Wilderness? I owned a set of these prior to recall year and loved 'em... 85K and a great ride (mostly highway)
I'm open to suggestions, but know that everyone has their opinions & biases. Just looking for a reasonable P245/75/16 going on a 99 4.0 4x4 (86K)
I know I will get slammed for this, but IMO BF Goodrich At's or Mt's have one thing that Firestone, Goodyear, ect do not. They have a 6 ply bottom with a 3 ply sidewall. Most of the others, like Goodyear for instance have a 5/2 combination. In other words as well as being a great tire they are more puncture resistant than the others. Expensive, but very good tire, you know the saying you get what you pay for -
Take a look at the Bridgestone Dueler AT REVO's. Very nice looking tire and a better treadwear rating than goodyear or anything else. I replaced my original firestones with this tire and i am very impressed. Check it out on http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....ler+A%2FT+Revo. You can compare other tires also but the REVO will come out on top. Best of all, its below $100.

I second that. I've had my Revo's for about 8 months. They are the best all-around tire I've ever had. (And I'm old enough to have gone through many sets. )
Just another few comments on this subject. I have run the Bridgestone Duelers (several years back), Kelly Safari AWR's, Firestone Radial ATX's, Wideclimbers (a BFG MT copy), BF Goodrich AT's, and BF Goodrich MT's. Once I went to the BFG's there just seemed to me to be no comparison. I drive in the sand, alot, and as well as being a decent sand tire they just were a much better road tire than the others. They seemed to have less bounce on ruff roads, but most noticable thing was the traction on a wet road, especially at take off. I have had 4 rangers, and one toy truck, so basically all of the difrent tires have been on light weight trucks. Then only other big noticable difrence was that I was surprised to find that the BFG MT's did so well in the sand, that is as long as you kept your foot out of it, if you just cruised slowly they float on top of the sand really well. I usualy get around 50k miles out of them.....as long as I balance and rotate them every 5k. I would say the downside to them would be price and your not going to get huge milage out of them, especially if you don't maintain them properly. Ok sorry such a long post, but IMHO through the years and all the difrent brads of tires I have run I really think the BFG's were the best.
After the last debacle with Firestone i would never ever put firestone tires on my truck or car. That was the third time over the years that firestone had problems with blowouts, and tried to cover it up. they are no longer trustworthy and in my mind should be put out of business.
All tires have gone up; oil is used in production of tires etc and being those prices rose so will tires Goodyears are good tires id go with them and not worry about the price
I have installed Firestone tires in the past and the experience hasn't been that great. However, it makes a big difference from model to model and dependign on which plant the tire was produced at. For off-roading purposes, most people in Colombia use Firehawk's 23° and I am yet to hear any negative comments on it. Wilderness/Firestone ATX, which I have had in my Bronco since october, have worked out fine, much better that expected. In order to offset the bad press as a result of the Ford Explorer, etc incident, Firestone (at least here in Colombia) offers a 1-year guarantee against anything than can happen to the tire; bumps, blown tires, irregular threads, etc etc, which I believe is the only company that offers such guarantee for tires. I had a car which I sold (Toyota Celica) and had worn Michelin (the most reputed tire brand) and both front tires blew up during highway driving, lucky me the new owner was behind the wheel!

I'll 3rd that. Dueler REVO's are simply great! Great ride, long wear and excellent looking.
