Have the truck at the dealers now for two days and they are having to install a new transfer case. I just backed out of the driveway Sunday morning going to work and the as soon as I got over 15mph you could hear the chain in the transfer case grinding. Every time I tried to acclerate it would grind. I put it in 4 wheel and it was fine, no grinding nothing. The dealer has had the truck since Monday and ordered a new transfer case. Hopefully I will find out more today and can keep you all updated.
I guess no one has had any problems with theirs yet. what model do you have? mileage before this occured? Did this happen out of the blue or did it slowly progress? I'm putting together an excel spreadsheet with problems posted here in FTE.
Not sure what the Blah symbol means but I will answer your questions anyway. This happened all of a sudden. I was not trying to shift into 4 wheel drive just backed out of the driveway and it was there. I have only used 4 wheel maybe 2-3 times prior to this and that was three months ago in the snow. I have 13k on the truck now and this is the first I have heard of this happening to anyone, as I subscribe to a couple of forums, guess I got the lucky one. I will post more info when I get all the answers from the dealership. They are waiting for the new transfer case to come in.

means- Just me ramblin on! ........anyway thanx for the info and I'll be lookin for your follow-up. My truck is due to be delivered in July so I want to be sure everything is A-O-K before excepting. Sorry yours is on the blink, I hope you get better results on the turnaround.
a transfer case connects to the back of the transmission and provides equal power to the front axle and the rear axle via two drive shafts. it acts as a splitter.
Update for those who are following. I just spoke with the tech who is working on my truck, he beleives that the fork has snapped which is causing the grinding sound. They are in the process of tearing things apart and inspecting the entire case. I should have the truck back tomorrow.
