I think (hope) this might be causing bad gas mileage. Its summer time, and i'm still barely getting 14.5 mpg. Thats with at least 50/50 highway city driving. I noticed that when its warm out, i can smell gas. At first i thought it was just this car i was following, but it did it several other times when i was driving. On different days going to different places, so i know its coming from my truck. I can smell it going 60 mph down the highway, and 30 mph in town. It only does it when the trucks warm. After i got home with it doing this one day, i parked the truck and poped the hood as soon as a got out to smell around, and nothing, i couldnt smell it anymore. Anyone know where this might be coming from. I dont see any puddles forming under the truck, and i dont see any spots of gas anywhere inside the engine. One thing i've thougth about is an emmissions box, its next to the battery, it traps vapors from the gas tank, stores it in the box, and releases it into the manifold when you start the truck up. Anybody know more on this, or how to test this thing?
I had the same problem. I could smell gas but it wasn't coming from the engine compartment. Turned out to be a broken fuel tank pressure sensor. I also had a code P0445 with the problem. The sensor is located on top of the tank on the white cap that holds the fuel pump and lines. For some reason the sensor broke off apparently leaving an opening to the tank. I didn't want to drop the tank or remove the bed so I attached the broken sensor to the piece remaining on the tank with a short tube and epoxied them together. No more smell or P0455.
Yeah, the funny thing is i dont have any codes. My truck is doesnt have the same diagnostic setup as yours, but i will check it out also. This would make sense, because as the day gets hotter, the gas in the tank will expand. Thanks for the info, i'll check it out.
