Question Dead!

Here's my problem. I pulled my truck out to wash and wax. After I got done i went to start it up and it turned over once then stopped! Ever thing was at half power and would not start. The lights where dim the windows went up slow and the wait to start light would not come on plus the engine would not turn over. I started to check out some of the fuses and connections but found nothing wrong. Then I started to smell the batteries and they where getting hot. So I took of all the termials. I checked out the starter nothing wrong there. It is like there is a short to ground some where. Any ideas? F 250 4x4 7.3 diesel

Do the guages go up and down when turning the key? When mine did this, it was a bad battery. You could hear the starter clicking but not enough juice to turn over. My truck is gas, so not sure if it would be the same thing. Good luck.

Dead (back to life)

Well found out my problem. It was the starter! Plus killed two batteries. The starter would engage and go into a dead short. I found this out after I boiled my batteries to death. I started out replaceing the soldenoid still did not want to start and the gauges acted like they where only getting half power. So I took starter to the parts store had them check it out they said it seemed fine just drawed more current. So went back home and tried again. Ever time I would turn the key to try and start nothing and and you would hear the batteries starting to boil plus when you would pull the battery cables it would spark big time. So next I had a old starter that work from my car so I hook it up on the ground useing jumper cables turned the key and it worked fine. So off I go back to the store got a new starter and batteries. Got home put ever thing back together turned the key and the starter would not engage but would turn. So back to the store got another starter. This time had them check it first. Put it in and it work great I like my Truck! My concern is if I had not come back out the first time would my truck have burned to the ground. Wonder if Ford has had any problems like this.

Thanks! Do think it would do any good to ask Ford about my problem? And if they have heard of the same thing that happen to me?

Same thing happened to me - on an '01 with the 2-bolt starter.
