How common is the 1959 Ford F-700(I think) cab and chassis. it's regular cab dual axle (power to both). I've never seen one of these trucks, this body style, or even the twin axle before. The guy will sell it for cheap and I wanted to know a little about this type of truck; how common they were, what they had for power plants, worth anything today, that kind of stuff.
Thanks
Eric
Hi Eric,
The '59 F-700 was pretty common in it's day, but not so common these days.
The T-series trucks were not as common as the F-series, but were basically the same truck, except for having the tandem axle. If this were a factory tandem, it would be a T-700.
The F-700 and T-700 came with these HD engines:
292 Heavy duty V-8
302 Heavy duty V-8
332 was available for the next size up (F-750, T-750).
I would say it is definately worth something today, because you just don't see that many of these old work horses still around.
if I remember right it had the fifth wheel, and yes it's a factory tandem(no sign of alterations). The reason i said "700 I think" is because the actualy number plates on each side of the hood are not there, so it's a guess. Wouldn't those engines be dogs in that truck or were they a bit stronger than what I'm thinking of(or it probably has low gears or both). It might be the 750 cuz the owner has the engine out and couldn't remember what is was right off, saying it wasn't the common engine displacement.
Hey man, do me a favor....get the VIN and the other data plate info off that truck, would you? I'm building a registry for these trucks, and need to include any and all that I find.
That goes for anyone else who reads this thread with a '57 - '60 F-series truck. Send me your VIN and data plate info, either by posting it, or emailing me. I will be putting an official post on here about it when the logo is done. I'm working on it now.
