The 'Off-Road' package & limited slip finally paid off today! I was checking the conditions of a favorite trail of mine, and I got high centered. . .bad. . .really bad. Going from a severely off camber hillside, I tried to take a short cut so I could level out by going over a small mound, which looked totally do-able. . .I didn't make it. My truck was like a see-saw, just teetering back and forth! Transfer case skid was pretty much carrying the weight of my truck. The tires were barely touching ground, and I tried to gas my way out, which only served to make the tires hop on the dirt and scramble my brains. All the bouncing moved the truck forward, but the front tires were completely off the ground now. I had good traction in the rear, but only right tire was spinning. I stomped on the brakes and mashed the gas, LS got its act together and dragged my truck back to safety. I totally creamed the tranny skid plate, it's got a bow in it that comes within 1/4" of the transfer case, it did its job well!
I remember seeing an aftermarket skid that was made out of tube, and labeled 'high-clearance'. . .what I really need is a lift!
Anyone want a slightly used skid plate? It's custom fabbed!
