EGR question

I plan on getting headers and eventually an intake and carb but what do I do about the EGR. should I keep it or just leave it off (which would be alot easier I think) but what do I do? I have a 76 302. Thanx for any help.

If you live in an area where emissions or safety testing is not required, you can leave the EGR off. Chances are, any emissions testing would exempt a 76 model anyway.

Maybe most of the time. But not around here. Anything after 1970 is emissions tested. There is a loophole that will allow an "historic vehicle" (25 years old) to be licensed without emissions check. But there are severe restrictions on how much you can drive it.

I'd recommend anyone comtemplating a change in emissions related components check their local laws before proceeding. If in doubt, keep the components until your sure it will pass, or until it does pass without them.

Will the absence of the EGR effect the motor in any way?

No, you may have to adjust the carb and or timing to accomodate for the lack of egr on a vehicle that was calibrated to have it. But it will not damage the motor, or other components.
