Question Cross-member weights?

What's up with those silly cross member weights bolted to the underside of the frame? Everytime I start to take them off I stop and think; " Well maybe they are supposed to be there." , really though - what effect can they have?
Anybody take them off and throw them away? Adverse results?

Their to lower the center of gravity so the X doesn't flip!
No, really, their for vibration, or suppression of vibration.

Thanks - I do realize their purpose, but can they really have any effect. I tried the truck with and without the exhaust weights - no difference - they're gone. Just 10 more pounds of lead that I'm not hauling around and they were starting to cause rust on the exhaust tubing.
