Weird Offroad Ford truck

Here is a cool Ford. Looks like someone crossed an old half track with a Ford Truck. I know this thing would pull like a tractor.

Question

Ad says it's street legal, but why do I not believe that? Are tracks really okay to run on public roads???

They only way I can see it being street legal is if the tracks have rubber feet on them. I know the M1 Abrahams tank has rubber feet on the tracks so it doesn't destoy the paved streets.

I could have really used that beast to pull my truck out of the swamp I was stuck in all last Wed-Friday. I ended up having a friend bring his D6 dozer to pull me out. At least he was a friend so it wasn't expensive.

Tracks arn't legal to drive on the street.

I'm sure there's more logic to it than this, but if you it ice, ESP with rubber pads on the tracks, you'll slide like crazy.

Only way I know this is I was an Armor platoon leader. In some of our sims, we'd slide on ice. And in some of our non-sims we'd slide just the same on ice. Bad situation.

Even the Matrax (orwhatever those new tread things are that peopl put on SuperDuty's) arnt street legal, and they are all rubber. Much nicer to the ground than those things.

The only way it could be legal is if it were registered as whatever vehicle the body is. Try driving it on the freeway, though. CHP would have a field day.

Immagine throwing track with that. Ugh..good luck walking it back on. Wonder if it comes with the tools to break track and repair it. What would you do when you wear the track out? hmmm..interesting to think of.

It would make a great off road recovery vehicle. I bet it is extremely heavy too.

Around St. Louis there's a guy with a half track and another with a Stuart tank that drive on the streets, plates and all. You don't see them often, maybe once or twice a year. They run rubber tracks and are fully street legal.

I saw a guy that had a 90s something Chevy truck with a modern half track setup on it. Maybe it is something that is used in an oil field or something. I saw the guy driving in on a beach in Galveston Texas.

Actually, the weight of the Abrams alone destroys the surface and suporting bed on paved roads. Most turning pads for the tanks are concrete which can take the strain of the excessive weight.

I saw American Chopper and they were going down the road on an Abrahams and the cops were escorting them and it wasn't damaging the road or at least didn't appear to be.

One alone will not cause noticable damage but continued use of heavy tracks will destroy te surface and subsurface of roads.
