I have an 04 FX4 crew that came with the BF Goodrich Rugged Trail 275 65 18 tires. First of all let me just tell you that these are by far the worse tires I have ever had on any vehicle (car or truck). They suck on dry pavement, are dangerous on wet roads and totally useless in snow or muddy terrain. I would love to get 20's but just don't have the $$$$ right now. So I plan on upgrading to the BF Goodrich KO's or the Nitto Grappler. It looks like I will go with the Nittos Because I can't find the Goodrich in anything close to my tire size. Now Here is my question, what is the largest tire size I can put on the stock 18 inch wheel. I read on another site that someone put 325 Nittos on the stock wheels, Is this really a good idea?
I am not sure about the tire size, but the BFG's are going to last longer than the Nitto's. My brother has ran both and he had better luck with the BFG'S.
The Nitto's have a really good tread rating, but I've only had mine four months, so I can't tell you how long they'll last. The largest you can put on your STOCK wheel is the 285/60R18's. You have to go to a wider wheel to get the 325's.
I found my local Discount Tire shop gave me the best price, perks, etc.
One of the options that I ordered on my 04 FX4 SuperCrew was the Goodyear LT275-65/18. Currently I have 6000 miles and I am very pleased with these tires. I opted with the (LT) light truck tire over the (P) passenger tire for two reasons.
(1). My 02 Lariat FX4 SuperCrew came with Goodyear P265-70/17. Those tires were basically worthless on wet pavement. They were "OK" off road, as long as you were in 4WD.
(2). I travel quite a bit off road pulling a 3000 lb. boat. (Canada/Minnesota/Kentucky)
I've noticed night and day difference between the (LT) tire and the (P) tire concerning traction, both on and off road. The (LT) is the only way to go.
