I am having a problem with my keyless entry. I did a search and did not find the solution. My remote (both of them) is only locking and unlocking the doors sporatically (sp) I know it is not the batteries in the remotes, cause it does it (or not does it) with both of them. I have NEVER had a problem with it untill today. I opened the hood to look around, but I don't really know what to look for. While I had the hood open, the remotes never failed. But as soon as I closed the hood it does not work again. If I hold the remote very close to the hood it works. Anybody have any idea as to what is wrong?
Oh yeah this is a 2001 F250 5.4
Thanks!!!
you don't happen to have the wireless keypad, do you? Even if you do, I'm not sure that might be the reason why your remotes do not work, but keypad also has a battery. Maybe that is low and affecting how your remotes work?
Don't know, but just throwing that out as an idea.

The door keypad is just like your remotes. It just sends a signal. Also, this may sound weird but, if you hold the remote up by your mouth they will work better. Don't know why or how it works but an installer told me this once for when your batteries get low and it usually works. If your batteries are really low, which I know is not the case, and you stick the remote at the front edge of your mouth you can usually get them to work. Again, it sounds funny but it does actually work.
Does this happen only at your home, have you noticed the problem when you’re away from home? The reason I'm asking is because the keyless system is probably just a RF transmitter/receiver and therefore susceptible to terrestrial interferences. There may be a possibility if something is transmitting on the same frequency with more gain that it could have a jamming effect on your remote.
hmm, mine is brand new and seems to have this problem. I wish the lights would flash when you UNLOCK it so you know it works I've noticed I hit the button and it won't unlock sometimes unless i'm really close.

I agree with you. The lights flashing when unlocking is a nice feature for locating your vehicle late at night after drinking a few beers.... Not that I condone drinking and driving.
I only have this problem when near paging company's tower. if you go to another location do you still have the problem? These remotes use Radio Freguencies to transmit so if you are near any RF tansmission, Ie, paging company, cell tower, radio station, etc could cause interfierence to the remotes. Yes you will get better range holding the remote to you mouth or body. your body intern acts as an antenna. Its odd that a few of your are having this trouble so maybe its not RF interfierence and somthing actually wrong with the remotes them selfs. If you have the key pad does it work or have the same problem as it just xmits the same as the remotes,, just my 2 cents,,,
