The driver's side window won't go up any more. It will go down with little problem. It is also easily pushed down once the roll down is in process. My question is are the gears in the window motor stripped? I have taken the door panel off to get a look and the window doesn't seem to be off track and when I press the up switch the window just "bounces" and slides down more. Any and all help is appreciated.
Once you remove the door panel you're going to have to drill two 1/2" holes in the sheet metal to get at two of the three window motor mounting bolts. The locations for the holes are indicated by two small dimples in the sheet metal. Other than that, it's fairly easy. I think the last gear drive rebuild kit I bought was about $13. One last thing: make sure you disconnect the battery before you stick you hand inside the door.
Get the kit at O'Reily's if you're going to get a kit, that's the cheapest place I found AND they have a $3 core (go figure), so it winds up being about $10... (last time I checked)
OR, go down to Wally World, go to the back, and pick up a small bag of $0.77 fishing weights. Take the motor out, take a look at the size you need the weights to be, and get weights the perfect size, OR do like I did, guesstimate the size, go get weights larger than you need, and teach yourself a little metalurgy to make them the right size (the ones I got were conveniently exactly double the size I needed, so I could pound them to bars, cut them in half, then shape them. Voila! 10 replacement spacers for the price of 5!) Place them where the old nylon spacers were, put the motor back together/in, and you're good to go.
After blowing $30 on kits for the window motors I decided to go this route for the tailgate and I was kicking myself for not doing it on the window motors too...
I have a problem with my driver's side window too. However it is a bit different tan the one above. When it gets really hot (80+) outside the window (electric) stops working. It doesn't happen often, since I live in WA state, but when it happens it's alway at the time I need the window up (cause it's raining) or down (cause it's fricken hot). 89 EB w/ 302 AT. Any ideas?
I just bougt a 1997 F250 (with the F150 body) my driver side window won't roll down. I removed the motor and powered it directually from the battery and it went up and down fine. So I got a new switch and put it in and still nothing. Anyone ever heard of a proble like this. I have checked both fuses and they are good. Thank you in advance.
