I was browsing the site and came across your question. If it has not been answered yet, I had the same problem on both an '83 F150 and my current Ford '95 F250 power stroker, both on the left side. The problem was the lower shock bolt was loose. It would not turn and felt tight but it did allow the shock to shift a little bit side to side, just enough to make a noise on even the smallest bump. I put a breaker bar and socket on it and tightened it as tight as I could and the noise is gone. Hope this helps.
