I'm puting my column back together after replacing the bearings. I need some direction on the sequence of parts from the end of the column (wheel end) to the steering wheel. I have the smaller bearing pressed into the housing but I can't remember how things go from there. I might be missing something. spring, metal sleeve with lip, c-clip, plastic collar for the signal turn off. I tried putting the sleeve on then spring then clip setting it in the most farthest groove but there is a 3/4 inch slop between the clop and spring. So I compressed them to the next groove. It was really tight and the clip doesn't want to stay in. So I put the plastic collar after the spring and put the clip in the farthest groov again with a little compression and it fits ok but I am almost certain this is not how it was and I think the signal switch won't even touch it know. If anyone have a good detailed diagram it would be helpful. I did a search and the one posted from the Ford Parts sight is to vague. Thanks for the help. I like the site but it seems to lock up on me alot?
Good luck..... Im having the very same problem.I replaced the turn signal switch and had a brute of a time fishing the wires down the colunm. Now , I forget how it came apart!
My biggest hurdle are two square head bolts that fit somehow on the inside and take two nuts on the side facing the perpatrator ( Me ). Somehow magically came out , but no way yours truly can get the thing together. I hope someone reads this and takes pitty on us.
Ok Ok The fight resumed today, and by shear stupid not willing to give in to a machine I WON.
First, my colunm is spring loaded so I had to push down hard on the cooler , sorry collar ,with the shifter , then using green painters tape ( what I saw on my peg board wall ), I proceeded to tape the heck out of the collar, firmly anchoring it to the shaft.
You have to bottom out the collar ot there will not be enough bolt length.
next I used some of the same tape to temporarily hold the T bolts in the holes , then I carefully lined up the bolts and holes and with a minimal amount of wiggle " Presto " there I was looking at 2 beautiful bolt heads ( about 1/8th inch ) just enouigh to start the nuts on.
Carefully tighten nuts , I started with the bottom , and rotated back and forth till it was snug as a bug.
The whole assembly now has a new switch , wires, and cruise control signal arm from an aftermarket kit.
